Brandon Jay’s love of trance, breakbeat, and house traces back to musical roots spanning the disco era to the early 80’s dance scene. His early exposure to electronic music includes such sounds as the mid 80’s synth-funk of Midnight Star, and artists like Moby and The Orb. When he was 14, the New Mexico native went to his first trance-inspired party. The positive and powerful vibes of the event brought him to discover a newfound passion of wanting to be a DJ. In the late 90’s, he immersed himself in playing house, trance, and breakbeat sounds on his first pair of turntables.
Brandon soon became known as a promotional powerhouse, and worked with some of New Mexico’s most respected production companies, including Inside Technologies. After the start of a successful DJ career, he formed the Desert Moon Collective, a network of artists, DJs, party patrons, and producers devoted to pure dance music events with a smaller, more underground feel. Brandon Jay was soon found on local FM Radio spots, and Internet radio worldwide.
He has an incredibly impressive track record that spans over 8 years, holding residencies in such famed clubs as Dragon’s Empire, Sauce Nightclub, Empire, and Club 7. His many notable underground events include performances at Celestial Sessions 1 in 2007, and Party Crasher’s 1 Year Anniversary in 2008. One reason why Brandon Jay has become one of the most prominent trance DJs in his area is due to his love of outdoor music venues. He has made full use of New Mexico’s vast outdoor desert spaces to create the most intense, intimate venues the trance scene can ever experience—musical gatherings that seem almost spiritual as well.
He has opened for and played alongside some of the world’s best DJs and performers, including Mark Farina, Filo Peri, Lee Burridge, DJ Dan, Colette, Wu-Tang Clan, and Christopher Lawrence.
His current endeavors center around music production. He is currently devoted to the creation of more trance, progressive, and house tracks. Although his heart is in playing the intimate events like those of the Desert Moon Collective, Brandon’s goals are also equally focused on playing venues across the U.S. and worldwide. He intends to bring the artistic, close-knit feel of electronic music back.
He does not measure landmark achievements in terms of playing particular shows or events. His greatest achievements rest on the positive outlook he’s carried with him over the years, and the consistency with which he has delivered emotionally moving, intense music to his fans. Above all, Brandon Jay will always be making music for the people. “The rush that I get when I see all those moving bodies in front of me is just… amazing.”
